Paul Hahn Jr died in 2008, but we are still hearing and telling stories about him. He was a bon-vivant, and loved an adventure. After his death, I started to go through some of his letters and photos. There were legal documents, personal letters, pictures of the store, and then this. In 1968, Paul Hahn wrote to the Department of the U.S. Navy asking to buy a decommissioned submarine. Whether this was simply for a laugh, or he had some other plan, we will never know. One suggestion was that he wanted to set up a tourist attraction near his cottage on Lake Superior. At any rate, the reply from the Navy is very funny. Amazing that they even replied. One wonders if they would reply to this sort of query today?
